Welcome to SRMT Community Engagement

The Frogtown Dump site is a Brownfields site, 3.718 acres in size and of an irregular shape containing waste material across several lots in the proximity of 313 Frogtown Road. &nbsp;It is bordered by residential property to the south and the Mohawk International Raceway (MIR) to the north. &nbsp;West is a wooded a property and East is Frogtown Road in Akwesasne. &nbsp;Historically used for family farming and orchards in 1800&#39;s to early 1900&#39;s, it has since been used for depositing waste material, i.e. construction and demolition debris, scrap metal, drums, tires, garbage, car parts, propane tanks, oil bottles, and ACBM (asbestos containing building materials from 1963-2011. &nbsp; &nbsp;Currently, it is fenced off since 2015 and no further dumping has been observed.JMT of New York has completed a phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) to determine site characteristics, surface, and sub-surface soil and monitoring well sampling as well as a most recent, ABCA (Analysis of Brownfields Cost Alternatives). &nbsp; &nbsp;The community of Akwesasne if welcome to provide suggestions and comment to the proposed Alternatives;1. &nbsp;Do nothing2. &nbsp;Clean up selected waste Removal/ Recycling, Grade, and Cap3. &nbsp;Complete Waste Removal4. &nbsp;Clean up just the portion the SRMT is deeded lots 106-1 area 1 and 106-1 area 2 (approx. 1.25 acres)&nbsp;5. &nbsp;Clean up selected Waste Removal / Recycling for SRMT lots 106-1 area 1 and 106-1 area 2&nbsp; (see figure 2 page 27 of document)

Frogtown Dump Site

Pollution Prevention is also called source reduction. &nbsp;It is a way to protect the environment by doing things in meaningful ways to Reduce, Eliminate or Prevent Pollution at its source!The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe is studying the effects that deicing agents, AKA road salt, on tribal water resources and fish and wildlife. &nbsp;The Tribe is looking at road salt pollution from two perspectives. &nbsp;1- The supply chain and carbon (CO2) emissions and 2- The direct effect of salt on water quality.SRMT is exploring ways to keep our roads, streets and walkways safe all the while reducing road salt usage and its impacts. &nbsp;We can have both if we learn to do it right.Our goal is to lead the way in protecting our water resources.

Road Salt Reduction - Akwesasne

The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe, Solid Waste Transfer Station is improving &nbsp;services at its location at 179 County Route 43, Fort Covington, NY.Phase I is complete. &nbsp;Phase IA is in progress and will be completed late October 2024.Phase I was the construction of a &quot;Tipping House&quot; where materials are directly emptied into a &quot;transfer trailer&quot;.Phase IA is the construction of a &quot;saw-tooth&quot; bin wall where materials are emptied into 4-yard containers.Phase II is being engineered and will be constructed beginning 2025. &nbsp;Phase II is the design and construction of offices, staff facilities, upgrades to material handling such as cardboard, the introduction of food-waste management and re-routing of traffic flow.
